The trip from Krakow to Lviv is an adventure in itself, crossing a border that is close, and yet an entry into a completely different world, almost untouched by tourism. You can cross by bus, train or foot (highly recommended). Within Ukraine, should you need train tickets, we can also help arrange this, on trains that are highly affordable, comfortable and a real experience.

We have had many questions about the border crossings recently and here I will try to give you a general idea what to expect:

To Lviv by Train:

Lviv is only about 350km from Krakow but still the shortest possible trip will take six and a half hours, on what they are calling the EXPRESS TRAIN. These leave 3 times a week in each direction. There are daily trains that take longer (see time table below).

To Lviv by Bus:

There are daily buses in both directions. Unfortunately most of them run at unsociable hours and arriving into Lviv in the middle of the night is not ideal. By bus to Lviv, your best bet is to take one of the overnight buses and arrive early morning. There are many stories about the horrors of such bus trips, but really its cheap and relatively easy as buses do not have to wait in the queue at the border.

Alternative ways to and from Lviv:

My most recommended route is to take a train to Przemysl (the Polish border town), a microbus to the border, walk across, and then take a Marshrutka to Central Lviv. This is cheap, relatively quite (depending, of course), and a real experience. If returning to Poland I suggest taking a train to Przemysl directly from Lviv because the border coming back into Poland is extremely unpredictable - you may wait from say 1 to 17 hours. Once in Przemysl you will have trains running to all corners of Poland within a few hours of your arrival.
